Jim Samann was an outstanding member of the Vermontville community who gave altruistically, and will be greatly missed by all.

He served on the Vermontville Village Council for over 20 years.  Originally, he did not run for a seat on the council, but won the seat as a write-in candidate.  He served on the ordinance, budget, water & sewer, and streets, drains, sidewalks & trees committees as well as kept a watchful eye on any and all maintenance or improvement projects in the village.  He was always concerned about the safety and well-being of Vermontville's residents.

He also volunteered much of his time, in all seasons, at Woodlawn Cemetery.  Along with other volunteers, he helped to maintain the remarkable appearance of the cemetery grounds.  He was interred there after his passing in October, 2007.

Jim received his Firefighter I certificate in 1954 and served as a firefighter in Delta Township and Charlotte before joining the Vermontville Township Fire Department in 1966. Jim also served as an E.M.T. for a while during his time in Vermontville.  He retired in March of 2006 after 40 years of dedicated service.

To all of you who loved Jim, and were loved by him, he will never be so far from you that you cannot feel his love. As our faith informs us, you will see him again, when our loving God reunites us all with the loved ones who preceded us. Take care of each other until then, as he would want you to. May God bless Jim. And may God bless us all.
